I have a dog who has been diagnosed with partial kidney failure. He is on medication to see if they can stabilise him but I want to try and give him a natural diet instead of prepared dog food. I also want to make sure he gets all the right vitamins/minerals he needs but obviously don't want to give him anything that will make his condition worse. Is there any that you would recommend?

Both Rubenal and Ipakitine are good supplements for a dog with impaired kidney function. Other than that you should make up a diet without too much protein, and the protein you do include should be of "good quality". Cottage cheese, chicken and white fish are suitable. A range of mixed, cooked vegetables and quite a lot of rice or pasta would also be good to include. If your dog is drinking and urinating quite a lot, which is common with kidney problems, then extra B vitamins can help. Yeast tablets are often given for this, or a small amount of Marmite.
