SPECIFIC™ hydrolysed food allergen management is a complete dry food designed to help cats with food sensitivities and allergies. Contains a limited number of ingredients and hydrolysed proteins making it less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Hydrolysation cuts the protein molecules cut into very small pieces making them too small to trigger a reaction.
For cats of all ages with food allergies.
Hydrolysed salmon and rice are ingredients less likely to trigger an allergic reaction.

Have been ordering this food for a cat who suffers from IBS for quite a while now. He loves this food and I’ve seen a great improvement in his symptoms. Would recommend.

My cat like this food and allergy symptoms are under control.

Its a nice sized kibble with a pleasant odour. My cat thoroughly enjoyed a change from Hills Z/D diet for his bowel disease, but so did all the local cats too!

After many bags of hills DD, ZD and Purina which my cat just wouldn't eat I've finally found this one which she eats happily. When dealing with a complex case of intestinal desease plus pancreatic insufficiency it's a daily struggle to get her to eat. After looking closely at the ingredients it it very high quality food and she is happy to eat. Sadly not marketed by UK vets who seem to stick to one brand .

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding SPECIFIC (Dechra) FDD-HY Food Allergy Management Cat Food, including answers from our team.
Heather
Good morning
I noticed in Q&A section it states Specific XX food is not hydrolysed and has lamb as main ingredient (although slightly different code is used, but wondered if that was actually a typo), and that ONLY hydrolysed wet food on market is Hills ZD. However this product info states that the main ingredient is hydrolysed salmon and does come in both dry and wet food. So, is this Specific (VetXX) FDD-HY Food Allergy Management Cat Food suitable for cats who are on hypoallergenic, hydrolysed food?
Cat is currently on Purina hypoallergenic, but isn't very impressed as this only comes in dry and not wet version and he always had a mixture of both before. We have tried Hills ZD before too, but grey sludge consistency was not a winner with our cat. Vet has told us he must have hydrolysed food.
The wet version of Specific (VetXX) FDW-HY Food Allergy Management Cat Food contains lamb protein that is not hydrolysed, so it is unfortunately not a truly anallergenic diet. The only truly anallergenic hydrolysed protein wet food on the market is still Hills Z/D unfortunately.

Hi my vet has advised we buy hydrolysed food for my cat, what if any wet foods are available please?
There are a few brands of hydrolysed anallergenic diets available. Specific FDD-HY dry is suitable, so is Purina HA, Hills Z/D and Royal Canin Anallergenic. It is advised to feed these as the only diet for 6 to 8 weeks once they are fully transitioned onto to determine if they are working or not.
The only hydrolysed wet diet available is Hills Z/D however currently there are supply issues with this. You can add some water to a dry diet if necessary to try and make an alternative wet version. Specific do have a Food Allergy Management wet food (FDW-HY) however it is not hydrolysed but has a novel protein source instead, lamb.

Is the lamb in Specific (VetXX) FDD-HY Food Allergy Management WET Cat Food in the form of hydrolysed protein?
The lamb in the FDW wet food is not hydrolysed, it is a novel protein instead. If your cat has been recommended the FDD-HY but your vet then you should stick to this and only use the FDW if they advise this is appropriate.
