My Jack Russell has a condition affecting her claws and I was advised by my vet to put her on Onychotin. She has done really well on it and has now reached the tender age of 16 1/2 years... very pleased with product and very pleased with excellent service always from this company.

What is the best thing to stop my dog's nails from breaking. His fur is very thick and there are no skin problems.
A biotin supplement like this is a good idea to nutritionally support the nails. There are other brands available, such as YuMove Skin & Coat. It may be that your dog is particularly active and catches/breaks his nails a lot, which could be unavoidable.

Is Biotin beneficial for Hyperkeritinosis?
Biotin deficiency can cause the hair to become thin or loose pigment and the skin to become dry and greasy. There is no solid evidence linking Biotin supplementation to the treating of Hyperkeritinosis (the thickening/drying/crusting of skin) however there are a few trials that imply it can help treat the condition. It is best to follow your vets advice primarily on managing the skin condition your pet has.

Will these help with my dogs itchy dry skin? The vet thinks he has an alletgy but couldnt say what to, they put him on medication which only made him aggressive, so i have taken him of them along with his other meds, as i think it is down to vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I have changed his food which i am trying to get his gi to accept and trying to find natrual foods ,snacks and vitamins to help with his dry itchy skin.
Biotin supplements can help with hair and nail growth disorders but usually will not help with allergic skin disease. If your dog is itching and your vet has diagnosed allergies then this is very likely the cause. I would recommend reading our blog 'Allergies in dogs & cats - a vet guide' for a full guide on how to approach the problem.

Is there any data concerning the long term use of onychotin tablets? Our dog a lab has benn on them for ovvr a year to stop split nails.
Many thanks for your enquiry. Vetruus don’t have any formal studies on the use of Onychotin long term, but have a lot of clients whose dogs are on it long term with no problems. Obviously though, if you spot anything unusual with your Lab that you think might be associated with using the capsules, then get in touch with your vet, or contact Vetruus (the manufacturers) directly here: http://vetruus.com/contact.html.
